African Mango – found in the forest of Cameroon this is a type of wild mango also known as Bush Mango. Locals have used it for centuries for a number of reasons and health benefits. MY FINDINGS: There is actually insufficient evidence confirming it has any health benefits at all and may cause flatulence, headaches, and sleep problems.
Cascara Sagrada – Offering tonic, therapeutic, toxic, and purgative activity it is most commonly used as an anthraquinone stimulant laxative. MY FINDINGS: Though effective for constipation it is safe when taken for less than 1 week only. If you consume this ingredient for more than 2 weeks you may experience potentially dangerous side effects such as dehydration, low levels of chloride, sodium, potassium and other “electrolytes” in the blood which can cause heart problems, muscle weakness, and more.
Ginger Root – Though commonly used in cuisine and in supplements primarily for treating Dyspepsia it’s important to understand that it may cause problems as well. MY FINDINGS: Though not all its benefits are confirmed and well researched it’s important to remember that it may cause bloating, heartburn, stomach discomfort and for women, extra menstrual bleeding.
Senna – This is actually an FDA approved ingredient as a nonprescription laxative. It helps treat constipation and helps clear the bowel before a diagnostic test such as colonoscopy. MY FINDINGS: Though t is effective remember that it may cause stomach discomfort, crams, and diarrhea. Another thing to remember is that it is UNSAFE long term which means do not take it more than 2 weeks or else your bowels may stop functioning properly and you may become dependent on laxatives. In addition to this it may cause heart function disorders, muscle weakness, liver damage, and more.
Goldenseal – Used for digestive disorders including peptic ulcers, stomach swelling (gastritis) and pain, diarrhea, colitis, hemorrhoids, constipation, and intestinal gas. MY FINDINGS: There is actually insufficient evidence confirming any of these and though a single does is possibly safe there simply isn’t enough research on the ingredient for further use.
Buckthorn – The bark actually contains compounds that are called anthraquinones which have strong laxative and purgative effect on the body. MY FINDINGS: There really is insufficient evidence confirming its benefits and there is no information about possible side effects and safety when taken in an extract.
Black Walnut – Used to treat open wounds, snake bites, intestinal problems, ulcers, scurvy and used as a laxative. MY FIDNINGS: There is insufficient evidence for its effectiveness and though it may be safe when taken short term there is not enough information on its safety long term.
Red Clover Extract – One of the richest sources of isoflavones which is a water soluble chemical that acts like estrogen. MY FIDNINGS: There is no actual evidence confirming any of this but it is considered safe.
Looking at these ingredients I personally am not all that impressed or convinced that this supplement is effective or safe. They claim that it is a great product and has no harsh effects on the body but considering the side effects and long term questions I think I’d want to stay clear. Also, if you read further down at their terms when you order you are signed up for their auto ship program which means you will receive a new bottle every month. Considering how unsafe some of these ingredients are for long term use it just doesn’t seem logical. I personally would stay far from several of them.…
